TWL S5 Week 8 Predictions

The final week of TWL has arrived! With many teams still jockeying for a playoff spot, and the rest looking to finish strong this should be exciting week all across the board. This weeks matches will be played on cp_yukon, a map that many teams are familiar with but still provides plenty of upsets. There are several really good games being played this week and even a few sneak peaks at possible playoff matches.

Once again, I didn't have time to finish writing predictions for Div4. I know I said I would include them this week but there are just to many teams and I honestly don't know many players or teams in div4 so my comments would be rather... generic. But I promise I will be predicting for all the divisions once the playoffs arise.

Click after the break to bring on the predictions!

Div 2a

Top Swaggin (4-3) vs unRestricted.TF2 (6-1)

Top Swaggin has had a rough couple of weeks and this match is no exception. unRestricted has all but locked down their position as the #1 overall seed in div2, and I think a strong win over TS here will seal their position as the best overall team going into the playoffs. This game is a must win for Top Swaggin who, despite having a solid roster that looks playoff caliber, just might miss out unless they can pull off the upset here. Luckily yukon is a good map for upsets, but my money is still on unRestricted.

Winner: unRestricted.TF2

Shears (1-6) vs Aggravated Assault (5-2)

Not much to say about this one, it looks like an easy win for Assault. After one loss and one FFL early in the season Assault has gone on a hot streak beating all of the best teams in their division. I see them doing a lot of damage in the playoffs and being a serious contender to win it all. Meanwhile, Shears hasn't had any luck as of late, and while they looked like a decent enough team going into the season things just didn't really pan out for them.

Winner: Aggravated Assault

Princeton Plainsboro (4-3) vs ProCalibre TF2 (4-3)

This has the potential to be a good game. The ProCalibre guys have improved immensely since their team debut at the beginning of last season and I'm certain they will continue assuming they stick together. And while I still don't know a lot about the Princeton Plainsboro guys, I know they are a pretty good team who won big when I picked them this week. I think ProCal is a more consistent team and probably the favorite going in here but I'm going to pick Princeton to win. It worked out well when I picked them last week so I'll go with my gut again.

Winner: Princeton Plainsboro

Nacy Drew and the Hardy Boys (3-5) vs Treason (4-2)

A win in this match should get Treason into the playoffs, and it seems like they should be able to pull it off. But it's been a while since Treason has had a decent match I can see them getting unbalanced by the unpredictable roster of the Hardy Boys. It might be a close match but barring any sort of weirdness pulled by the Hardy Boys I think Treason should be able to take this one without too much trouble.

Winner: Treason

Div 2b

TEAMBAD (6-1) vs apem (5-2)

I really don't know what to think about apem. They seem to do well against good teams and struggle against bad teams. It's hard to tell what this means from the box scores alone and since I don't know much about the team it makes them extremely hard to predict for. TEAMBAD is just about as solid a mid team as there is and I think they should win this one. But with apem having already pulled off a couple upsets this season already, I wouldn't put it past them to take down TEAMBAD on yukon.

Winner: TEAMBAD

Dead Cows Strike Back (4-3) vs Jarate Masters (2-5)

DCSB took a forfeit loss last week, but it looks like they're still active and if that's the case I think Jarate Masters are in for a world of pain. The Jarate Masters are a good squad who just didn't catch many breaks this season. Still, if a team with 16 players on its roster takes a FFL you can place a pretty safe bet that the team is either defunct or imploding, so maybe the JM guys can catch them with their pants down.

Winner: Dead Cows Strike Back

Six Guys Off (3-4) vs Butt Town (4-3)

The Six Guys Off crew are pretty chill, but I'm pretty sure Butt Town is reeling from that big loss last week and is ready to get back into playoff contention. A must win game, I think Butt Town just has too much on the table not to pull off a win, although last week's loss to apem may have been a sign of weakness.

Winner: Butt Town

Epidemic - cheap knockoff (3-4) vs TONY HAWKS PRO SKATERS (4-3)

PRO SKATERS had a big win over CLFG last week and I picked against them so I gotta give them props there. I still don't know enough about their team to make an accurate prediction but they seem to have enough good players on their roster to win games in their division. For Epidemic it's the same story as it has been all season. Good guys, hopefully they stick together and come back swinging next season.

Winner: TONY HAWKS PRO SKATERS

Div 3a

orz (6-1) vs inertia (6-1)

Wow what a great match in the last week of the season. These two met up once before on Gpit, and orz took that match 2-1. I can see this one being another really close match, but it might be lower scoring because of the map. Both of these teams are among the best in the division, I'd rank them both in the top three spots. It's a tough call but I'm going to have to go with orz in this one. Inertia might be able to take them on a lot of cp maps, but from what I know about these two teams I think orz will be able to out snipe Inertia at yukon mid. From there I think it's a slippery slope, but Inertia probably has the better soldier combo so I wouldn't count them out. Again, this is going to be a great match and should be really fun to watch these teams go at it.

Winner: orz

Magnolia Thunderkitty (4-3) vs Team Tactics (5-2)

Even though Magnolia Thunderkitty lost to inertia last week, I think they just might be the third best team in this subdivision. We'll find out this week as they get matched up against currently ranked #3, Team Tactics. Like the above-mentioned, these two met up once before on Gpit, and Team Tactics took the match 2-0. Team Tactics is a good team that hasn't given up any bad losses this season, but I think Magnolia is going to get their revenge this week. They are an underestimated team that I think will win big on yukon, and pull off the upset in their rematch.

Winner: Magnolia Thunderkitty

ATF B00Mst!x (3-4) vs EVGA Gaming Community (3-4)

These two teams met just last week where I predicted to ATF to win in a close one. Then EVGA really made me eat my words by rolling them 6-0 on badlands. I'm going to have to take full credit for their victory, as my prediction obviously fueled them go out and make me look like an idiot. Actually on second thought, I'm just going to pick EVGA this time and shut up.

Winner: EVGA Gaming Community

Constant Mayhem Society (3-4) vs AcE (2-5)

The last time these two faced each other AcE won on freight 3-2. I think the match will be another close one, probably 4-3 or 3-2 again, but this time I think CMS will pull off the W. Both teams only have one win that wasn't a forfeit, and even though I think AcE should be the favorite to win here my gut is saying CMS will pull off a narrow victory on yukon. Both teams seem to have improved since the last time these two faced, but I think CMS has more so. Look for defiance to constantly suicide their medic at every opportunity possible.

Winner: Constant Mayhem Society

Div 3b

Team Legend (7-0) vs Dawgz. (4-3)

Don't get me wrong here, because Legend far from unbeatable. But they definitely earned their #1 spot and are going to be one of the top contenders going into the playoffs. I think they have a good chance getting upset early in the postseason, but this week... Magic 8-Ball says "Doubtful". Dawgz have put together a good squad that's capable of upsetting them on yukon, but it will take everything they've got to pull it off. The safe bet is to pick Team Legend here.

Winner: Team Legend

Northern Resistance (5-2) vs Fatal Universal (2-5)

I think despite finish last in their subdivision (of the teams that didn't drop), Fatal Universal is a better team than they've let on to be. I see Northern Resistance as the exact opposite -- after a crushing defeat last week, they were finally toppled off their #2 position, and will need to win this game to stay in the playoff picture. The 3b playoff picture is actually shaping up nicely, with as many as three teams with the potential to grab the coveted second playoff spot (with Legend having locked down the other spot long ago). A must win for Northern Resistance, I think Fatal just might have it in them to pull off the big upset. The teams are definitely closer in skill than their records imply.

Winner: Fatal Universal

Div 3c

Target Practice (7-0) vs Clan Zero (4-3)

Clan Zero lost a close bought last week, and unfortunately for them this week they are getting matched up against undefeated big dog, Target Practice. I think Target Practice is just going to be too much for them, although they have a small chance on yukon if they play their cards right. Like I said last week, Target Practice has already moped up this subdivision and is ready for the playoffs to get rolling.

Winner: Target Practice

Mobility Gaming (5-2) vs what ! (4-2)

This is an absolute must win for Mobility Gaming. If they win, they're in the playoffs. I wanted to pick what ! here in an upset, but Mobility Gaming is still looking pretty good, and I think the motivation to make the playoffs will overcome any weaknesses the team may have.

Winner: Mobility Gaming

Team Omega (5-2) vs No Questions Asked (1-6)

Should be an easy victory for Team Omega. Nothing against the NQA guys but I just don't seem them pulling an upset against a team like Omega. Omega can still make the playoffs if Mobility losses, assuming they win this match against NQA.

Winner: Team Omega

deFy Gaming (1-6) vs Gravity Gun Grenadiers (4-3)

Even with the addition of GrieVe to their roster, deFy just isn't winning any games. If they can't beat Semi Serious or HK with that sort of Invite level star power, I don't see how they're going to win this one. Sorry guys, I picked you last week and you let me down! I've got GGG easy in this one.

Winner: Gravity Gun Grenadiers

Semi Serious (4-3) vs Hells Kitchen (3-4)

Ooooooooh it's on now son! I happen to know there have been some heated rivalries going on between these two teams, with the Semi guys getting controversially banned (and then unbanned) from the HK pub servers a few weeks back for comments made on Semi's team forums. Seeing as much of the Semi roster is made up of the former HK team, this rivalry should come as no surprise. HK is admittedly a little better than I thought they were, soundly beating a GrieVe-infused deFy last week. Still, I think Semi Serious is the more talented group and they should have no problem taking down HK on yukon in the final week of the season.

Winner: 5 Hells Kitchen down Semi Serious

Div 3d

The Spacebots (6-1) vs Perplex (6-1)

Another really awesome match between two playoff teams, I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Last week I said I know nothing about Perplex, and G-mang promptly responded by "representing". Seeing as I used to use G-mang's health numbers, I know for a fact that the vibrant green numbers will clash against yukon's purplish landscape so badly that there is no way he can avoid knowing how much health his teammates have at all times. I believe this will lead them to victory, even though the last time these two faced off on Gravelpit The Spacebots came through. Perplex is slowly shaping up to be one of my top picks to win div3, and a win over The Spacebots would definitely secure that. On the other hand, a win by The Spacebots would secure their dominance as one of the top div3 teams, sooo... it's by far the toughest pick this week, but I'm going with Perplex, and I'll even give a score: 5-4.

Winner: Perplex

Lawn Care INC (5-2) vs Mad Decent (4-3)

I think Lawn Care really wants to prove to everyone that they were a playoff caliber team that just didn't get placed in the right subdivision. They have a chance here to get revenge on Mad Decent, who beat them on Turbine two weeks earlier. My gut is telling my Lawn Care wins here, but I'm going to have to pick against it. I've picked way too many upsets this week and even though upsets aren't uncommon on yukon, Mad Decent is a solid team and deserves credit where credit is due.

Winner: Mad Decent

My Chemical Bromance (1-6) vs Common Union of Bastard Engineers (4-3)

Bromance is the only winless team that hasn't dropped from D3 (their one victory being a FFW), so I am going to commend them for that by picking them to win in a big 6-0 upset over the Bastards!

Winner: My Chemical Bromance

Didn't have vhalin and Harbleu for the rematch and we beat you guys even worse than the first time when they were there.

We also want perplex to beat the spacebots as it gives us a chance to possibly play in the playoff if you didn't check out how close the two top spots in 3D are.

good luck to all the teams

#2 G-Mang 2010-02-08 13:38 I'm glad you took note of my representation. And yes, that green health text will give us the winning advantage, no question.

Also for the record our loss against spacebots was totally lame. It was the day we got back from winter break, on a map we'd played like twice ever, and on said break, none of us scrimmed, one of our members' computer broke, and another of our members retired. Come monday we were like "well we're fucked" and we were right.
