TWL S5 Week 8 Predictions

The final week of TWL has arrived! With many teams still jockeying for a playoff spot, and the rest looking to finish strong this should be exciting week all across the board. This weeks matches will be played on cp_yukon, a map that many teams are familiar with but still provides plenty of upsets. There are several really good games being played this week and even a few sneak peaks at possible playoff matches.

Once again, I didn't have time to finish writing predictions for Div4. I know I said I would include them this week but there are just to many teams and I honestly don't know many players or teams in div4 so my comments would be rather... generic. But I promise I will be predicting for all the divisions once the playoffs arise.

Click after the break to bring on the predictions!

ESEA-O S5 Week 8 Predictions

After an exciting week of cp_yukon with a lot of matches between teams at the top of the standings, and some very unexpected blowouts, we’re heading into the final week of the regular season on cp_granary. From what I have heard, the jury is still out on whether there will be 12 or 16 teams in playoffs (up from 8 last Season), a decision that will be made sometime after February 12th. According to djfivenine’s math, teams with at least ten wins will definitely qualify, which only 5 teams currently have. 7 other teams have 8 or 9 wins, making this a key week to see who ends up in playoffs. Today, I will be making arbitrary assertions about who I think will win some of the closest/most important matchups, commonly known as predictions.

TWL S5 Week 7 Predictions

Div1 may be dead, but the rest of TWL is still alive and kicking.  This week is everyone's favorite map, cp_badlands. With only two more weeks left in the season, a lot of these matches will be make or break for teams looking to get a spot in the postseason. I didn't have time to cover div4 unfortunately, but I'll be sure to write preds for the lower decks once the playoffs get going. Without further ado...

ESEA-I S5 Power Rankings Week 7

The season is ¾ over and LAN hopes for many teams are diminishing. It’s insane how most of the teams this season are still in the battle for that last playoff spot, excluding Dynamic (although for some, they’ll need to play nearly perfectly for a shot at reaching the LAN). The main teams in question right now are  Loaded, MMM and Blight. Blight is definitely at the back of the pack, but they’ve made some roster changes that I believe will probably help them in the long run.

Up next is Yukon. It saddens me to see this map, as it breaks the AWESOME map streak, but it should be refreshing to see a map that hasn’t been out since competitive TF2's existence. The most interesting aspect of this map is the middle fight. The mid control point takes a long time to cap and puts teams iin an extremely vulnerable position. With that said, the longest mid fights take place on this map and can cause some really interesting results.

The usual format of doing predictions is getting kind of stale, so I decided to make a slight change for this week.

ESEA-I S5 Week 6 Preds

It’s awesome seeing the good maps come out, and it’s at an important time for many of the Invite teams. The Invite records this season are closer than ever and it’ll be extremely interesting to see how it all turns out. A shot at the prize money and a chance to go to the LAN is what’s on everyone’s mind, and teams will need to work extra hard to obtain it.

Gravel pit is a great spectator map as it often comes down to the last minute and one mistake can easily cost a game/round. This map is less about death-matching as it is about coordination and strategy which is a reason that some love it and others hate it. There are so many different strategies to be seen and every few seasons it seems that teams decide to switch up the norm sentry spot. Almost all classes are extremely important on this map: Snipers get a lot of action; scouts can dominate in the open areas if engineers aren’t present; spies are oftentimes seen in stalemates; demomen sticky traps are a hassle to deal with and soldiers jumping shack on B/C is important as well. Pyros and Heavies are also seen from time to time at the C site. The dynamics and diversity of this map will add to the interest in easily one of the most fun maps to spectate, and for many, to play.
