So far this year has been quite productive for the Community franchise. Each site has substantially grown and the CommForums.com combined forums project was a complete success. This project, undertaken by Ben and midblue (with help from a few other people), synced the member account databases of all four Community websites so that members of any individual site may post in any section of the forums. In addition to the forum flexibility provided by this endeavor, the combination of the member databases allows users of any site to post comments and files on any other site. This crossover comes at a time when our two new sites are covering games with exciting prospects.
CommunityL4D.com was released in early January and has grown in five months to become the home of the competitive Left 4 Dead community. We have hosted three L4D tournaments in the past five months with great success – the 64-team Infected Cup 2 recently concluded with Area 51 Gaming toppling defending IC1 champions Reason Gaming. The L4D community is now eagerly awaiting the CEVO L4D tournament and many teams are playing in the L4DDER launch tournament. CommL4D is constantly growing but I would like to request a few things from our members: spread the word about all the tournaments/leagues in action, add #l4d to your Steam name or simply promote the GameSurge.net channel, play pick-up-games in #l4dpug, and promote the site/competitive L4D to players that you meet.
CommunityFortress.com was released in mid-March and boasts tons of articles covering competitive Team Fortress 2. The site was launched at an exciting time for the competitive scene with CEVO's third season and ESEA's first season concluding. Since launch, Pandemic has been crowned champions of CEVO-P over Complexity and ESEA playoffs have resulted in a Pandemic vs. Complexity rematch. In addition, many leagues/tournaments have recently been announced: CEVO's OCZ tournament, ESEA's Season 3, TGL's Season 2, TWL's Season 1, etc. We have just launched forums for CommunityFortress.com and would love to see some community participation on them. If you don’t have time to post on the forums, be sure to comment on front page articles.
To conclude I would like to mention a feature that will be coming to all of our community sites…a combined wiki! This wiki will allow each community to write and read content written by fellow competitive L4D and TF2 players, rather than the casuals who typically run wikis. Stay tuned!
