CommFt Public TF2 Server

Many of you are unaware, but CommunityFortress.com has 2 public servers, one in North America and one in Europe. They are configured to let CommunityFortress.com community members to get together for some good old fashioned TF2 playing in a competitive setting.

The servers are currently formatted as Public SOAP DM servers; however, there is more to it than meets the eye. CommunityFortress.com staff and mentors have the ability to host Lobbies on the servers for high performance gaming, as well as reserving the server specifically for classes and discussions with our mentors here at CommunityFortress.com.

Voting is added, just type !soapvote in chat to start a vote to disable SOAP and go at the map normally.

Voting can only happen every 5 minutes to prevent vote spam. Simply majority wins.

The DM maps are gone, still on the server but they are not in rotation. I am building the map cycle file now to get the map rotation finished.

Add the Advertisements plugin and display that publically so people know what they can do.

#7 eXtine 2010-04-13 07:44 Sounds Great Hawkeye. In regards to maps, I've heard that people would prefer to DM on regular maps versus the DM maps we had on there.

Let's get this server filled up people! It was the #1 vote getter for "what do you want to see next from commFT", so let's get some frag on. Just looking to DM a friend? Hop in there and use it!

+1 #6 Hawkeye 2010-04-12 22:09 Having it switch between modes on the fly would be nice, but historically, it never really goes anywhere, even the established PUB communities for the most part don't swap game modes on people since it will empty a server. Most don't even swap maps all that much honestly.

I am writing a voting plug-in to disable SOAP and play a game if they want it. but it's basically always going to default back to SOAP on map change.

What I am planning:

1) Allow mentors/staff at CommFt to host lobbies on this server. (Want to get some logitics worked out first)

2) Add voting to server to allow pubbers to temporarily turn it into a standard game. (In progress)

3) Get the map cycle figured out, adding some maps, removing others. (should be done sometime later today I hope)

4) Work with the Mentor program to schedule events like the old Badlands mid event.

#5 runtime 2010-04-12 17:30 Still don't think so, nowadays everyone's part of their own clique and stuff, very few new players, so it's hard to start up a new community

TF2F has always had trouble filling its second pro server and its pretty much the #1 competitive pub out there

And I think competitive pubbing is on the decline with stuff like tf2 lobbies and pug.na being more popular

If you guys leave it as a pub it's not going to fill up.

Gotfrag had a pub server, it never filled

You can get a pub server filled up, you just have to put effort into it. Currently I think the server needs work (it doesn't disable DM automatically or anything.) I think if when 10 people joined it swapped to standard play (meaning TF2F #1 style 8v8 with 2 per class [except demo and medic I think those should be 1]) it'd be better and we'd be able to sustain them as pubs.

#2 Hawkeye 2010-04-12 14:23 That is the plan, a few of us will be running things through TF2Lobby.com. Just getting things in order and getting people able to host things.

+2 #1 Nosferatu Man 2010-04-12 10:34 It would be pretty cool if you guys could get some weekly pugs or something going. The NA server's almost always empty when I look.
