CEVO Announces TF2 Season 6

From the CEVO site:

CEVO is pleased to announce the opening of registration for the next season of Team Fortress 2. Season 6 features three skill divisions: Professional, Main, and Amateur. Each has different entry parameters, competitive expectations, and prizes.

The regular event membership fee for the Professional and Main Divisions is $20 USD per player. However, any player who registers by midnight CST Sunday, July 18th will receive a discounted early bird rate of only $15 USD. Players may register for Season 6 without already being on a team.

Registration for CEVO Team Fortress 2 Season 6 opens on Sunday, July 11th at 7 PM CST and will remain open until Sunday, August 8th at midnight CST.

Event Details:

The event will consist of three skill divisions, Professional (CEVO-P), Main (CEVO-M), and Amateur (CEVO-A).

The Professional Division (CEVO-P) will consist of the 16 most talented teams in North America. The teams for this division will consist of the top 4 teams from CEVO-P Season 5 in addition to the top 2 teams from CEVO-M Season 5 (if all 6 accept CEVO's invitation to compete). The other 10 spots be decided through a Professional Placement tournament. The teams competing in this tournament will be invited by CEVO to participate. More information regarding this tournament will appear in the news release that appears after this one on the CEVO TF2 page.

The Professional Division has only one National region. Teams will be competing for at least $2,000.00 in guaranteed cash if the division is full. This prize pot may be supplemented by additional prizes and additional money from a full Main division.

Professional teams will play two matches per week on Monday and Thursday nights.

NOTE: If Exultance TF2 and Just 4 Fame decide to compete in this division, they will not have to pay entry fees. This is a consequence of their 1st and 2nd place finishes in CEVO-M S5 (payment of entry fees were their prizes).

The Main Division (CEVO-Main) is also now a paid division with the same entry fee as Professional. It is open to teams on an invitation/application basis. The top 4 teams from CEVO-M Season 5 are invited to this division in addition to the top 3 teams of CEVO-A Season 5 (they are named as they were during the previous season):

Exultance TF2
Just 4 Fame
Focus Gaming TF2
United Gamers
22d
Knockout gaming
Mainline Gaming

If you feel that your team is of the caliber necessary to play in the Main division, you need to submit a Main application. If you are unfamiliar with this process, you need to follow these steps:

• Sign up your team in CEVO-Amateur
• Get a minimum of 5 roster players (@ready).
• Captains will then see a Main application under their Control Panel.
• Simply fill out the application and submit.

Main has a single region, just like Professional, called National. Teams will be competing for at least $1,500.00 in guaranteed cash. We are aiming to have 24-30 teams in this division; if the division has this many teams, the prize pot will be increased. There will be two matches per week in this division and the match deadline days are Monday and Thursday.

NOTE: If Exultance TF2 and Just 4 Fame decide to compete in this division, they will not have to pay entry fees. This is a consequence of their 1st and 2nd place finishes in CEVO-M S5 (payment of entry fees were their prizes). Likewise with 22d since they placed 1st in CEVO-A S5 (payment of CEVO-M entry fees was their prize).

The Amateur Division (CEVO-A) is specially designed for newer teams that are looking to get their feet wet in competitive play. New to this season is the fact that this division has one National conference, just like Professional and Main. There will be one match per week in this division and the match deadline day is Thursday of each week.

NOTE: Teams in this division may not reserve a NuclearFallout game server, will be limited to 2 disputes per season, and will not be eligible for any yet-unannounced promotions for paid members.

#8 jiggawhat 2010-07-09 13:42 Fair point, I hope it works out better than I think it will

At the very least I don't think you can get 11 other teams in addition to the main 5 teams that could really benefit by being in the division…you named a few, but the list runs out after that

#7 SealClubber 2010-07-09 13:25 I don't see what's so wrong with 5-0 scores anyways… OH god guys they got dominated in the video game!

It's not like mma or hockey where the skill differences could end up crippling the lower skilled people for the rest of their life…

If by "there are easily 16 teams that are top caliber" you mean 16 teams that exist that you can stick in CEVO-P, then yes. But there's really only 5-6 teams that can be competitive at the top level, and then there's everyone else. If there are 16 teams, there's going to be a lot of 5-0s.

By your logic, we should probably have at least 5 divisions so that none of the games are 5-0. The reality is that the teams that are directly below compLexity, blight-fanom, eMg, Nexus, Blight A team, etc (such as nexzil, VG, AI, cobras, eXult) can easily dominate the middle-lower CEVO-M teams with scores of 5-0. So which division do we encourage them to join? The one where they can be improving their game against the best teams in NA or the one where they wipe teams that aren't ever going to be as serious as they are? Seems like an easy choice to me.

Another point - with 16 teams in the division, many of the "everyone else" teams' games will be against one another since CPI pairs teams that perform at the same level. They will get to play one another in addition to the top teams that will push them to improve.

16 teams for pro eh… where in the bloody name of hell are they going to get 16 professional level teams?

Look no further than seal cub clubbing club…

We will probably quit xpl and join up for the new season of cevo.

#2 Graham 2010-07-08 17:54 Through the Pro placement tournament. As for the sheer numbers, they can be found in current ESEA-I/CEVO-P teams PLUS the top ESEA-O/CEVO-M teams. There are easily 16 teams that are top caliber.
