UGC Highlander playoffs predictions – Semi-finals

Well we have gotten this far so I may as well see it out and cover the rest of the play-offs. We are down to the last 4 teams in each skill division so we’re definitely at the business then. For the winners of this match, there will be a spot in the final and for the loser a 3rd place play-off match. With so few matches remaining time to give the other divisions a shoutout for their consistency and dedication to the league. Thank you to all the teams that have played all season, hope to see you next season and keep Highlander active.

Quick recap of last week’s games then.

Target Sucks (1) 2-1 Exodus Jedi (9) – Target sucks set up a meeting with Classic Mixup after taking a 2-1 win in a 3rd round decider versus ExJedi. ExJedi to their credit weren’t expected to take a round and almost won the game.

Stoic Defenders of the Igloo (12) 0-2 Classic Mixup (4) – Classic go marching on; even on one of Stoic’s strongest maps they managed to overwhelm the opposition. Stoic will feel a little aggrieved having met Classic in the last 8 but overall a decent finish for them after some poor form early season.

Inglorious Broadcasters (3) 2-0 Unbelievably Brave Sweethearts (6) – Casted on eXtv with some lovely UGC config preventing the viewer’s seeing a pretty epic ending with IB clutching the second round in a position where my team seemed almost certain to take it into a 3rd round decider. Good coverage eXtv, oh eXtine you’re my hero! Shoutout to Polk for not being at his best to carry us to victory - still best Heavy in UGC <3.

Performance Enhanced (7) 2-0 Lonely Hearts (2) – Another game casted by the wonderful folk at eXtv and to most people’s surprise Performance Enhanced pulled out a surprise victory with great strategy and teamwork winning in the end. A lot of words were said about some sort of rivalry between these two teams but I never saw too many bad words said, although Lonely Hearts certainly must feel hurt to have lost to PE of all teams.

Week 3 on ctf_chaos

What the hell is this map, I don’t even know. Seriously though as UGC Highlander has been around for 2 seasons previous but this being the first season interest has grown massively, the admins have decided to mix in an old favourite, in this case ctf_chaos and to be honest I have not looked on the map so all I can guess is the team that practises hard will have the edge.

Platinum Division:

Target Sucks (1) v Classic Mixup (4) – If anybody can stop Classic Mixup it has to be Target Sucks and it has to be on this map. A best of three final will always favour the invite specialists, if they somehow screw up on 1 map they can recover on the second and third map. Mixup haven’t shown much signs of cracking at all in the playoffs and they have kept playing their games so Target Sucks and their inspirational Spy, Grieve will have to conjure up some kind of super strategy to defeat the invites on this dodgy map. Overall though, Classic have the full package in teamwork, gamesense, individual ability to overcome anything Target Sucks throw at them. Classic Mixup 7-2 Target Sucks

Inglorious Broadcasters (3) v Performance Enhanced (7) – This game is so evenly matched I find this will be incredibly hard to call. PE has hit good form in these playoffs, performing well in both their games so far despite many favouring the other team. Again they will come into this game probably as the underdogs, as IB have shown that they are a little stronger with an early season win over PE. I do expect a tight game but IB have this knack of pulling out a win when their backs are against the walls. I wouldn’t be surprised if the timer ran out at 11-10 to IB as PE were about to pick up the Intel after wiping IB. Inglorious Broadcasters 9-7 Performance Enhanced.

Steel Division:

Death Marked Soldiers v Team Player – This is probably the best matchup in Steel, both these teams for my money should have or could have been in platinum but lacked a little bit of dedication needed to make the grade. Instead they will both have to settle for a place in Steel and so far they are living up to their names and reputations as two of the best Steel teams around. DMS have possibly the best Spy in the league in Sylon but TP meanwhile have one of the best Demos in Steel so watch out for them two if the game is casted. Still though DMS activity hasn’t been as good as it was once so I fancy TP to take the game. Team Player 8-3 Death Marked Soldiers

Stock 4 Pubs v Wolfcats – I don’t know too much about these teams to be honest so I cannot really judge at all. Wolfcats have on their roster the famed coder Drunken f00l which may prove interesting to spectators. S4p however at one point were vying for a platinum spot but then lost their last 2 matches against s2 and Underdog Heroes, missing out. Wolfcats are unbeaten in 5 games but lost pretty badly on ctf_impact2 before the winning streak. Statistics tell me that capture the flag isn’t their best game mode so I will go with Stock 4 Pubs who to me have seemed very serious about making the final. Stock 4 Pubs 6-1 Wolfcats

Iron Division:

Shoutout to the Iron teams for competing so hard all season. They deserve coverage for their dedication.

Psycho Qillaz v The Olive Garden – No idea about any of these teams again, I noticed PQ took a round off stoic on Gravelpit and have been solid on ctf maps so far this season. TOG had a crazy 8-7 loss to 4L clan, really close game by the looks of it but I fancy PQ to take it, The Olive Garden seem to give away too many caps. Psycho Qillaz 11-8 The Olive Garden

Inter-galactic Space Pimps v Mi7 – Mi7 I known from lobbies and I think one scrim which was a total roll (skill difference between Iron and Platinum shows) but I know they are massive tryhards and practise a lot. The Space pimps win the best name of UGC award, but I am going to go with dedication over awesome names here as I am willing to bet mi7 took the time to practise the map. Although that is not to say the pimps didn’t either. Mi7 7-4 Inter-galactic Space Pimps

Tin Division:

The lowest division but probably not the worst to be honest as the league is pretty tight and results of the bottom 8 have been mixed versus a lot of Iron teams. Still we’re down to the Tin final next week between Into the Limbo and Board 8 Aurochs. I will go with Board 8 Aurochs as they beat ITL earlier this season 5-1 on Coldfront, considering this is best out of 3 I imagine they will play a 5cp map which will probably see the fate repeated. Board 8 Aurochs 2-0 Into the Limbo.

#1 Die-No 2011-05-21 16:03 Because we had about a 4 day advance notice the tin finals were this week (along with the rules to the finals), I was given the ability to postpone the match for one week, if ITL agreed. ITL did agree, the finals will be next week.
