This will be a series of articles featuring the teams that makeup the CEVO 6v6 League. Please enjoy and rest assured that if you compete in CEVO, I will be interviewing you.
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing the team Superior Posterior, represented by Zebra Cakes.
Meet the team after the break!
Could you please introduce your team (Names, Positions, Roles, etc.)?
Hi. I’m Zebra Cakes. Gurge didn’t want to fill this out, so I got stuck with it. I pocket, Gurge plays soldier or scout, Skuxx plays medic, Starfire, B-Wreck, and Earshot play scout, and Duwat carries us as demo.
How did your team form or come into existence (Explain the history of your team)?
The core of our team comes from a public community, so we generally play like a group of retarded pubstars. Gurge, Skuxx, and Duwat asked me to play scout for them before the season started, and then I switched to soldier after we lost our pocket. We lost one of our scouts shortly thereafter, so we picked up Starfire and B-Wreck.
What has been your teams thinking through this season (CEVO)? Biggest moments? Worst?
Our general mindset involves having as much fun as possible, so long as that doesn’t interfere with our ability to win. I think most people can agree that losing sucks. I can’t think of any big moments we’ve had, but our worst moment would definitely be our preseason forfeit loss to a team that doesn’t exist. Somehow that’s still on our record.
What type of preparation has your team done as it advances in the playoffs?
We have literally done no preparation for the playoffs. The holidays effectively ruined any practice schedule we had, and scheduling both CEVO and ESEA matches has proved difficult.
Any times of team adversity? How did you handle it?
We have disagreements, just like most teams probably do. We all spend a ton of time playing this game, so, when things don’t go well, people get frustrated. We usually just take a while to cool off and then talk about what we could’ve done better or differently.
Gurge, what has been some of your toughest challenges at team leader?
The hardest part about dealing with Gurge being the team leader is the utter lack of competence regarding any team matter. For example, he doesn’t tell me when he schedules matches. I’m literally writing this interview when I get this:
9:03 PM - gurge: we have a cevo match now
9:03 PM - gurge: i think i forgot to tell you
9:03 PM - Zebra Cakes: lolwut
9:03 PM - gurge: lol
9:03 PM - gurge: i'm serious
9:03 PM - gurge: hahah
9:03 PM - gurge: fuck
9:03 PM - gurge: i told everyone else too
9:03 PM - gurge: yeah, gpit let's go
What are your future plans as a team?
I imagine that we’ll go through postseason roster changes, just like most other teams. I hope that our core will stick together and we grow stronger as a team while not compromising the team chemistry we’ve developed. I imagine we’ll continue playing in ESEA and hopefully CEVO next season, so long as there is a stable Main division.
What do you guys do when you are not geared up for a match?
We just try to play as well as we can. We have won our last several matches without warming up much at all.
Who is the funniest member of the team? Who is the serious member of the team? Who is Mr./Miss Popular?
Our funniest member is definitely Duwat. He has the unique ability to cause us to lose rounds due to incontrollable laughter. Starfire is certainly Mr. Serious. He constantly threatens to leave the team if we lose to “this terrible group of shitties”. I don’t think any of us are particularly popular.
What advice can you give for other players and clans looking to enter competitive sixes play?
The best advice I could give someone looking to enter the competitive scene is to work on your deathmatch abilities. Gamesense is great, teamwork and coordination are awesome, but, if you’re just beginning competitive play, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the drastic skill difference between competitive and public play. Working on your DM during the transition can help mask the deficiencies in the rest of your game. Having great DM can also help you get recognized earlier by teams higher up the ladder.
What do you love best about competitive Team Fortress 2? What would you like to see improved?
I love the intangibles. I enjoy that the game revolves around teamwork and coordination. Sure, one exceptional player can carry a team at lower levels of play, but that aside, gameplay revolves around how well you can work with your teammates and react to situations appropriately.
What do you enjoy best about CEVO? What would you change?
After dealing with ESEA’s match client, using CMN is nothing but a pleasant experience. I’m not sure if actually does anything, but it never breaks with updates, and it never breaks without updates. It just always works. If you have a match scheduled and both teams show up, you get to play. End of story. Additionally, the ability to play your matches on your own private server is great.
I wish the timing of the seasons was changed so that it staggers with the ESEA season. I’m sure there’s a good reason for why it's played when it is, but the overlap with ESEA certainly contributes to many teams not finishing the season. Playing 3 matches a week is difficult to manage.
Thank you for your time team, and keep your eye on this site for more CEVO stories and news!
