ESEA-I S5 Playoff Spots Settled

Book your plane tickets Ladies and Gentlemen, it's official. The top 4 spots in the Invite league was settled yesterday, even though there are still a few matches left to be played in the season. The teams qualifying for the playoffs in order of placement are: Evil Geniuses, Complexity, Pandemic, and Muscle Milk and Moolians

Click Read More to take a quick look at recent results and how the standings ended up.

EG has had their playoff sealed for a while and no one was really worried about Complexity sealing the deal. coL still has a match to play against Dynamic tonight, which could pull their record up to 13-3, even with EG. EG has the tie breaker with more rounds won, so they are assured top spot.

Pandemic was looking pretty assured of a playoff spot coming into this week. They weren't going to let the chance slip away, putting on a strong 5-1 performance against MmM and needing only one win in two matches against Loaded to seal a spot. They won both matches and end the season with an 11-5 record.

As this playoff race heated up, I had a feeling that the 4th spot would need at least a 10-6 record in order to get in. Sure enough, that's what Muscle Milk and Moolians ended up with. While they must have been a little disappointed with that showing against Pandemic on Granary, MmM rebounded with a win over Loaded and a very close match ending in a loss to Complexity on Yukon. Going into the playoffs, you got to wonder how they will do on Granary again, but they matched up well in recent games against Complexity.

Loaded had a mathematical chance coming into this week. With a 5-6 record and 5 matches to play, 5 wins would have put them at 10-6 and probably into the playoffs. Unfortunately, the recent loss of SuperFly as their medic (replaced by DaveMD) and an unstable starting lineup meant that the mathematical possibility quickly became impossible. They still have yet to play 2 of those 5 matches and hopefully will be doing so tonight.

Blight, who were eliminated from playoff contention with their 5-11 record, still have a match to play against Loaded. This match could determine who ends the season in 5th place, a crucial spot in case one of the other teams cannot make it to the LAN finals.

This article is just meant to be a quick update on the situation. We'll be having a more in depth wrap of the season in the future, alongside a Top 10 teams in NA Power Ranking, and a preview of the LAN Playoffs.

#2 wanderrful 2010-02-13 18:00 that's true duck — mmm did beat col on yukon and lost to them on gran

but eXtine was talking about the match that mmm had on yukon against loaded immediately before their match against coL on granary that night.

mmm imho could have easily beaten complexity during that match if they hadn't been as loose in the opening. the only reason they lost that match against complexity was because at the very end they messed up their push into last and then complexity just prevented them from being able to recover, so they pushed all the way back to mmm's last and capped it before mmm could get their uber back up and re-organize themselves.
