CEVO Playoffs - Round 3 Coverage

CEVO has updated their playoff brackets. Check them here: http://www.cevo.com/playoffs/bracket.php?id=1515

The CEVO Open Season 8 is quickly coming to a conclusion and plenty of exciting matches are still to come.

Click the jump for a breakdown.

This double elimination tournament will determine who is the CEVO Season 8 Open Champion. The contestants will brush up on their death match skills as they battle on the King of The Hill map, Ashville. The Upper Bracket contains teams that have not lost in playoff play. The Lower Bracket contains teams that must win or go home!

Upper Bracket

#1 Immortal 6 aka The Pharmacy (10-0) vs. #5 Police InJustice (9-2)

Can Immortal 6 continue their domination in a decisive victory over Police Injustice? The Police Injustice bring an impressive 9-2 record against undefeated Immortal 6.

Salamancer from eXtv leans heavily toward Immortal 6 due to their advanced experience in competitive sixes play. Cranberry leader of Immortal 6 had these thoughts on the matchup, "Should be a really good match, they have a decent record and although I don't really know anybody on their roster...we are not underestimating their ability. We are going into this match with the same mind set we do with every match, play hard to win every round and don't stop until the games over."

#7 OKNerd TF2 Dating Service (8-2) vs. #11 Dropaholics (7-3)

The Dropaholics look to continue their cinderella run to the Semi-Finals. They first have to make it through a tough challenge against the Nerd Dating Service. Dropholics have been aided in their playoff run by a first round forfeit victory and a close contest against Seal Team 6. The Nerd Dating service could very well be undefeated except for a few close losses. An impressive 5-1 victory over the top ranked Lonely Hearts have lead the Dating Service to this point.

Lower Bracket

Match One - Soft Served (8-2) vs. ShortBus (7-3)

Soft Served comes in with a week off after a forfeit win over Witch Dick. They take on the Short Bus who is looking to recover after their loss (2-5) to Immortal 6. Both teams were able to win the last time they played a King of the Hill (koth_pro_viaduct) matchup, so this will make for an interesting contest. The Short Bus has played the more difficult schedule as Soft Served has three of their victories via forfeit.

Match Two - Bathtime with Ducky! (7-4) vs. Superior Posterior (9-2)

Superior Posterior comes in with a nearly flawless record as their only loss in season play came last week versus Police Injustice. Prior to the loss, Superior had won nine straight matches including wins over Nerd Dating Service and Police Injustice. Bathtime with Ducky! will have their hands full as their previous KOTH contest ended in a loss (3-4 vs. 5 Guys Buzzy and Fries). However, Ducky has had an additional time to prepare as they advanced with a forfeit win over the Get Burnt Son.

Match Three - SWAG PANTALONES (8-3) vs. Seal Team 6 (7-3)

Swag Pantalones is the more experienced team in this match as the Seal Team 6 has had six contests end in forfeit. Seal Team 6 did put up a tough fight against the Drogaholics before dropping the contest 3-5. Meanwhile, Swag Pantalones look to turn around their fortunes on KOTH as they dropped their previous contest against Superior Posterior (1-4). Swag will be calling on previous victories over Sunday Funday and Soft Served to put them over the top. This is the first meeting this season between the two teams.

Match Four - Lonely Hearts (6-3-1) vs. Magical Frolicking Unicorns (5-6)

Can Sherman Gluck rally his team after a tough second round loss against the Nerd Dating Service? Can Free and the Unicorns soar after a playoff win? MFU will be a huge underdog against the Lonely Hearts as it remains the only team left in the CEVO playoffs with a sub .500 record. Two members of MFU have expressed the immense challenge they will face. Dubel_07 stated that the matchup will be rough for MFU and Mop simply commented "GG."
