Week One in CEVO-P was certainly nothing less than action packed as big time moves, surprising revelations, and inner team drama filled TF2's elite scene. What's unfortunate is that very little of that was actually on the playing field.
In fact only 1 game was played last week in CEVO-P between Area 51 and Apocalypse Gaming. Area 51 took the match with relative ease thanks to their experience and ability to control the tempo from the start. At the end of the day we have EG opting out of CEVO-P in favor of working out their new roster setup, welcoming Yaug back. The former Pandemic couldn't get it together for CEVO and recently started sporting the Blight Gaming tags with new demoman in Orzo stepping up to fill Kermit's shoes. And then there's Mindbomb whose still on the prowl for a sponsor and hasn't played their week 1 match.
So what can we expect from week 2 where these teams are set to face off on Granary? With the hopes of matches being played here's what to look out for:
CompLexity (coL.) vs. Area 51 ([51])
Complexity - Did you guys see their match against Kculture? If not you didn't miss anything. Complexity can beat any team. How many times do you have to hear that right? It's nothing different in this matchup except for one thing - back in February during the ESEA season Area 51, then Muscle Milk, almost ran these guys right out of the server on this very map in an awesome 5-4 game where coL. saw their lead diminish as 51 scored 3 points to put the pressure on. So long as Complexity is taking this serious and practicing expect good things from these guys but if they decide they got this by virtue of their awesomeness (and they are pretty awesome) we could be in for another Dynamic on Freight upset here.
Area 51 - Congrats on your win in last week's showcase game... even if it was just because it was the only game actually played. 51 made sure AG knew what they were getting into by entering the professional sector. Complexity however won't be so predictable. Regardless of if Snake pulls out the Targe or Relic decides to damage himself and run around with the equalizer - 51's got what it takes to go step for step and they've proven it time and time again. As cbear eluded to in his recent interview Ducky will probably end up carrying like he always does ;) while cbear wreckfaces the mistakes of Complexity. As long as CB keeps these guys modest and their scout pair holds their ground against Complexity's we could see one of the greatest matches of the season right here.
Match Result: Giving it to Complexity. It's always their game to loose, especially after coming off of Lan like they did. If 51 comes out swinging expect another close game, if not coL. can power on through.
eMazing Gaming (eMg.) vs. Apocalypse Gaming (AG|)
eMazing - Nothing really new to add for these guys from their week one segment, they're still that team that could upset at any moment if you sleep on them and their experience together is just the icing on the cake. I'm glad to see these two teams facing off here because it'll give AG a chance to show they were the better ESEA Open team and likewise, eMg can shut down any doubts with a win. Look for this match to come down to b4nny staying alive and sealing off choke points, if they can manage to support him well enough the rest should fall into place.
Apocalypse - How bad do you want it? AG had the support of what seemed like the world behind them in my circles of TF communities when it came down to the ESEA O playoffs and the Invite voting polls (sorry guys I trolled a bit and voted for VG). YouMustRecover and Otter are going to be in charge of the tempo for these guys and if they can manage to keep the pressure on eMg long enough look for AG to go hard for that revenge win. The piece of their equation that I think will make or break their back on this map is their scouts and how well they support the powers and flank the enemy. No doubt they're stellar scouts and if they can stay alive long enough to clean up the pushes their impact will be game changing.
Match Result: This is my game of the week if only because of the fact that I truly believe both have made amazing progress over the past season and they each could walk away with a win. I'm picking eMg based on their performance on Granary in the playoffs.
Team EG (EG.) vs. Mindbomb (iQ.)
EG - Well, I hate seeing a name like EG grace the teams list and never play a match. It just seems like such a waste of what could have been. If there's any chance of them readying up for CEVO I don't currently see it and in that case I wish you guys the best of luck in prepping for your next season in ESEA. Surely a roster of Casey, Cyzer, Reptile, Yaug, Phelon, and Destro would scare any team, especially if they have all this time to prepare without onlookers.
Mindbomb - I shall compare thee to the Squiggly Line as seen in Family Guy: “Oh squiggly line in my eye fluid; I see you there lurking on the periphery of my vision. But when I try to look at you, you scurry away. Are you shy, squiggly line? Why only when I ignore you, do you return to the centre of my eye? Oh squiggly line! It’s alright; You are forgiven." - Stewie Griffin. But seriously, I'm dying to see this squad play and going another week where the odds of them taking to a server are slim makes me cry a little inside. Follow this link if you don't understand the Squiggly reference: http://www.livevideo.com/video/16327CBD71094E06B7AD69FBCC58E41C/stewie-griffin-squiggly-line.aspx
Match Result: Defaulted to nobody? Maybe a Mindbomb FFW, whatever the case unless these teams get it in shape for the community don't expect a thriller here.
Our World Now (.Owns) wins by default of a bye week. Kind of sucks considering how much I really want to see these guys play, here's to hoping their not matched up against EG next week....
All Family Guy references aside, putting the big three maps at the start of the season may end up causing them to not be played if teams don't get it together and soon. Lucky for us, both of the likely to be played matches are exciting ones with deep history encouraging the involved teams to fight hard for the victory. Here's to hoping for a slightly more involved week 3 on Gravelpit!
