To all the low and low-mid teams out there, UGC will be kicking off their new season (season five) on August 4th. There will be a week of pre-season play followed by eight weeks of regulation play and then a playoff series.
I know UGC gets looked down on a lot by the upper teams, but honestly, the league is as good as TWL any more. The only real difference these days is the quality of the teams enrolled (TWL has a handful of mid and mid+ teams in addition to all of the low and low-mid ones) and the fact that UGC's admins can actually be contacted without a week waiting period between your post and their response.
Snowblindfrog from Magnolia Thunderkitty has been working with Fornaught, the long-time UGC head admin, to improve the league going into next season. A new, two-division structure and an improved map rotation are just two of the changes he hopes to implement going forward, which should make the league that much more appealing to any teams looking for a place to get started. Hopefully they do some tweaking of the configs too, because last season they were pretty awful.
While my team will no longer be participating in UGC (there comes a time when all kids have to grow up, right?), I definitely recommend it for any younger teams that are put off by TWL's lack of admin support and aren't quite ready to drop cash to get beat up week in and week out in ESEA-O. This league is a perfect counter-part to CEVO-A, and I highly encourage new teams to enroll in both to get in some reps.

We were kind of making the transition from low-mid to mid during the last seasons of all the leagues. There were teams in CEVO-M we could beat but others that probably would have rolled us. We went 8-8 in ESEA-O, but that includes a few FFWs (not really something we can control). We mostly joined ESEA because we were doing all the other leagues and figured more matches couldn't hurt.
We're in CEVO-M now, though, so I guess it's kind of moot.
Shouldn't you have been in CEVO-M then? How did you do in ESEA-O?
Anyways, good heads up about the team makeup for UGC relative to others.
Thanks
I've normally seen 1 div 2 team and that team rolls right through everyone else. Like Improper's team this season, unR last season, and etc.
It kind of depends, but probably around there. My team won UGC last season and we were enrolled in Div 2, CEVO-A, and ESEA-O simultaneously. But aside from us and one or two other teams, most of the teams were probably Div 3 or lower.
That's pretty much what I was asking, thanks.
Not sure what you mean by a chance, but in the lower of the two divisions you'd probably be playing a lot of teams that are on a similar skill level to yourself.
If nothing else, like I said it's a good way to get your team in some weekly matches and get in some reps. You're not going to become a mid team overnight. It's going to take a lot of scrims and matches and general practice.
