Pubbers in Competitive #2

It’s been a week since the first post about the “Pubbers in competitive play” experiment, and a week since their first 6v6 match as well. Their first match was against Clan Crazy, a team with 3 seasons of Div6 experience. TST lost 5-0 on cp_granary in 12 minutes, followed by a 5-0 defeat in 10 minutes on cp_badlands. Talking to Crazy Leader BlackBob afterwards:

BlackBob:

"For their first 6v6 match they did really well. They reached mid before we capped it, which is a lot more than we could say in our first match."

Every day (Monday to Thursday) they've had a practice with Wildcard followed by a PCW (Scrim for you American folks), and on Thursday the 3rd of December that paid off with a 6-1 win on badlands against the newly formed team DW (Wildcard played Medic since Jeebus wasn't online - Jeebus joined halfway and finished the match)!

Team question this week: “So what do you think now that you've had your first week and matches in competitive?”

LehFreakshow:

"We're slowly getting better. We have a LOT to do, but we are slowly getting the hang of things. No need to explain anything in-game anymore. Everyone know what everyone is saying, for example."

Techyworm:

"It's definitely different from what I thought competitive was from people talking on the forums. Very fast paced and lots of teamwork, but still not so far out of the average pubber’s league that it would be impossible for them to start playing competitive."

TRIPOD:

"I think we're all getting along nicely sure we lost a few matches, but we're getting better every match we play, and I bet we will get our revenge soon enough :D I'm really happy that the team sticked together for a week now not just left the team after first few matches."

Jeebus:

"It's only been a week? Feels like forever, in a good way. I've found it to be one hell of an experience, really enjoyed it and so far my outlook of the game has been completely changed. For a start, I used to think Rambo Medic was a genius plan, and that the TEAM in Team Fortress 2 is some hell of a lot more important than I used to think. As for the team, I feel that we're really coming together. On a personal level and on a teamwork level. Since our first match where we were completely disorganised and scattered it feels like we've gotten significantly better."

Buffalo Bill/Up:

Up: We seem to be suffering a bit from inactivity quite a bit right now. Thankfully we just got a new demo that will hopefully be a lot more active, so that problem should be solved. I've noticed the communications in the team take quite a hit when neither of us (referring to himself and Buffalo Bill) are playing, but with our medic just learning to call that's to be expected.

Buffalo Bill: While they still have a long way to go, and there’s still plenty they can/have to improve on before S7 starts, they’ve made major strides since they first started playing last week.

Sadly, Yellow Tetris Block decided it wasn’t his thing. This is sadly a common occurrence with people who try out competitive TF2. We wish him the best in his further TF2 career, and happy fragging! He left, but a replacement was found. Give a warm welcome to Klash, who is willing to play Demo for us!
