CommFT Highlander Strategy Series: Quad Damage

Ladies and gents, welcome back to another edition of the CommFT Highlander Strategy Series!

Fact: we live in exciting times!  The CommFT Highlander Tournament is gathering steam for the finals!  Casted matches are going off left and right! CEVO has just announced a Summer HL tournament!

What's a person to do in all this excitement?  How, in this unrelenting summer blaze, does one shy away from over-heating?  How does one prevent one's face from combusting, the top of one's head from shooting off, a strange roman candle, while neighbors look on in awe.  Look, Billy. Free's head done come off again.  Go get your sister and set up the soccer net.

Fact: Sit back, have a cool drink, and relax with some Highlander strategy.  In this edition, Gambles tells it like it is in the EU Highlander scene.

Team Name

Quad damage (UK's finest)

How did you prepare for this particular CommFT HL Tourney Match?

We don't prepare for our highlander games at all. We rarely even talk about it before hand. Our players just join the mumble 10 minutes before our match, join the server and just go with the flow, as it were. (It seems to have worked so far)

What were the strategies you used during the match? Did they work? Did you have to make changes on the fly?

This particular match we actually looked at the map (cp_glacier_rc6) because none of us had ever played it. Funnily enough when put to practice the strategy we had come up with (in our short view of the map) was a huge failure! Luckily it was an "ABBA" style map and we were able to copy the enemy teams strategy on our 2nd attempt at defence. Needless to say we won't be thinking up any strategies before playing our matches anymore. We'll stick to just plain ol' "winging it."

If you could change anything about the strategy you used during the match, what would it be?

We definately wouldn't run through the map and come up with a plan before hand.

What will you do differently to prepare for upcoming matches?

We don't plan to do anything differently. The way that we're currently doing things (no practice at all) seems to be working so we're just going to stick with that! That way, we don't really care if we lose, any result is a good one!

Have you learned anything specifically about Highlander strategy while playing in this tournament?

We've learned after playing our first game against SNSD that the sniper is a very important class in highlander. Unfortunately we failed to pick up on this during our game against them. They, being the skilled team they are, were able to keep our sniper under control throughout most of the map. Which is exactly the reason we started losing (Kona carries).  We were still pretty surprised we did as well as we did against them though, having never played highlander before.

What class is the most difficult to use or coordinate in Highlander?  Why?

All of them! (especially in our mumble).  We've found that everybody seems to be having their own individual conversations amongst themselves. Of course the heavy medic combo are keeping coordinated but mostly the other players are just playing their own game. Until we need to block or capture a point or make a push as a team. We find the best way to call anything or come up with any kind of plan of action is to shout "Shutup!" at least 5 times to get the attention of at least half of the team.

There you have it, ladies and gents: winging it can work!  And work well, especially if you're the very talented Quad Damage.
