I know I have been posting a lot of these interviews, but improper 'demanded' an interview so I obliged. <3 bro. I hope you enjoy n.n
Heya guys, thanks for talking with me. If you would, take a minute to tell us about yourselves and your team
C||| improper: We started out about a year ago this month on the PC as Scout Thugs & Harmony. We all started playing PC TF2 right around then. Some of our roster from then was still intact, including myself, Mancakes, Outblaze, and Dim. We played in UGC at first, then moved on to TWL, and eventually CEVO and ESEA last season. We've gone through a few different name changes, going to Mad Decent and then MedRed Inc. Carnal Gaming started sponsoring us a little over a month ago, so that's where we are now.
Mancakes: TF2 is the first PC game I've played competitively--at all. I spent most of my life playing console games, and I got hooked on TF2 Xbox the month is came out. In 2009, when Improper left the Xbox to go to the PC, I followed. Improper was my clan leader on the 360, so it made sense for him to be my leader on the PC.
So, last week, you guys took it to GGG, turning the rolls on the top team and denying them on both maps. This is the second time you did that this season, so what is it that gives you the advantage over otherwise perfect record GGG.
C||| improper: Well, the first time we played them I think running Harbleu (who was on our roster at the time) gave us the advantage. He basically carried that match. I don't know how it would have went down if he wasn't playing. As far as the playoffs go, I think preparation won it for us. We scrimmed a lot on Gravel Pit and Freight and went into the game ready. I know GGG doesn't scrim that much, so it's probably safe to say we were more ready than they were. I will say that the game on Freight was one of the best I've played in a while from a competitive standpoint. They basically rolled us the first two rounds, but after that it was a back and forth fight for twenty-five minutes and was a ton of fun.
Mancakes: Yes, we practiced harder for that match more than any other in recent memory. We knew what type of reputation GGG had, so we went through all of the maps, trying to figure out unique strategies to try to throw them off.
Do you guys usually prepare that much for a match or did you step up the effort for the playoffs?
C||| improper: During the regular season, not really. We usually scrim a couple nights a week and try to get in one or two before matches. Pretty much standard for most teams, I'd imagine. But seeing as we went into the playoffs as the fifth seed and pretty much no one projected us to even get out of the first round, we wanted to prove people wrong. We're all competitive people, and it's always fun knocking out a team no one expected you to beat. As a result, we scrimmed a bit more before both of our playoff matches, and particularly before GGG because we knew that one was going to be tough.
Mancakes: After our less-than-spectacular meltdown in the CEVO-A playoffs, we wanted to make sure that that didn't happen again. I have to admit that I was dreading the match with GGG the entire week before the game. While we practiced, I was dropping ubers and doing stupid mistakes, and I was really expecting us to lose that game. But we kept practicing practicing and practicing (and bitching), so it paid off.
Yeah, my butt is still a little sore from that raping on our matchup. With this in mind, are you guys preparing extra hard to take on the Thunderkitties or do you think you have that match in the bag?
C||| improper: I don't like to go into any match assuming we're going to win. We've beaten Magnolia Thunderkitty before, but we haven't beaten them this Wednesday, and until we do we haven't won shit. We're treating it just like the GGG match. We're going to scrim Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, come up with some fun new strats to use, and go in looking to take home div two.
Mancakes: I view the Thunderkitties as our rivals--we seem to bump into them every so often, and the games are always intense. Plus, Dr. Salllllllvador is quite possibly the sexiest Demo in the game. Even though we've beaten them before, we're not slacking off, and I hope the Thunderkitties aren't, either. =D
I am asking this question a lot lately, but I know Improper was a bit... worked up over the TWL adminship over this season. With that in mind, what leagues do you guys plan on competing in next season?
C||| improper: We're doing CEVO-M for sure; already signed up and paid for. We're probably going to do ESEA-O as well assuming that lpkane doesn't decide to dump TF2 support. And then we're doing UGC too to make a suicide run at some free Valve swag. That's five matches a week, although admittedly we won't be taking the UGC games all that seriously. If ESEA falls through we might do TGL instead, but I think we're pretty much done with TWL unless the new admins make a big turn-around from what a disaster the current season was.
Well, thank you guys for sitting down with me. You got any last comment or shoutouts before I finish up?
C||| improper: A shoutout to the rest of our team: cardboard, Outblaze, iPatriot, iceh, Jeh, and Dim, and to Roman for coming back into the fold and ringing for us a lot the past few weeks. And a shoutout to doogi, who we hope can get back online soon because we all miss playing with him. Oh, and finally, a shoutout to Magnolia Thunderkitty. We know you guys have dreams, but sadly they're going to end here.
Mancakes: I LOVE YOU DOOGI COME BACK TO US SOON
Thanks guys, and good luck to everyone going into TWL finals next week, make us some good matches guys.
