"Can someone explain the whole Roamer/Pocket thing please??"

Update: Versão portugues traduzido pelo xpd do Teamfortress.com.br aqui: LINK

So I was playing in a pug the other day on tf2lobby alongside people who were new to this whole idea of "6v6 Fair Fight" format when someone who recognized me asked me essentially what makes the title of this article.  I thought I'd take a few paragraphs to properly explain.

From what I've noticed, the status quo says that the Pocket babysits the Medic while the Roamer does his own thing.

What I look like whenever I hear the aforementioned explanation

Allow me to drop an education bomb...

Blog: Be Nice

Hello all, I'm Jesus. I've taken up the task of becoming a Community Fortress writer, just some quick info on myself here then before I get to the topic at hand. I'm on a low/mid team called The Magic, we're currently not playing any leagues (as no leagues have actually started yet.) But we will be playing in TWL and CEVO (seasons 6 and 5 respectfully.) Next, I've been playing TF2 since the first minutes of the beta's release and have seen it grow as a game and become the best multiplayer experience out there (notice how I left out competitive, while it may be the best for competitive it's also the best for casual players too.) I'm a scout player so my main point of view is going to be that of a scout or utility player. Now that I've given a small intro of myself I'll get to the topic at hand.

Blog: Demo playback requests - Take 2

The goal of this blog post is to provide Valve Software with a clear outline of changes we as a community would like to see implemented in regards to demo playback, filmmaking, and SourceTV capabilities for spectators and shoutcasters. I will be starting with the requests that should be easier to implement, before looking at more long term issues. Some of these requests are copied from my previous article published Late October 09. These are stated again here simply for the sake of completeness even though some of these requests have been acknowledged by Valve and are scheduled to be implemented. Please tack on your thoughts on needed changes in the comment section. (i r newb. Edits made to reflect realit. Also, shoutout to Decap, I added a note in the article from him)

Blog: Parent Talk

Continuing my look at community issues, I want to touch on an important subject today: Parents.

This conversation topic was inspired by a particular line in a post about the future of ESEA-O on GotFrag, and my time spent as a Rowing Coach for two years. The line in question: "In other words, people probably don't pay the entry fee because it's a hassle (and their parents won't agree to pay for it), not because they did a cost-benefit analysis and deemed it imprudent."

This sentence demonstrates that we, as in the community of competitive TF2ers, need to realize a couple of things.

First, if our hobby is to grow and succeed, it needs money. I don't just mean larger pools of prize money to attract players, but money to pay for administrators, league officials, servers, bandwidth, expanded league coverage, and anti-cheat measures.

New to Competitive? READ ME!

As we come along to the third year since the release of VALVe's star team-based shooter Team Fortress 2, we are starting to see the expansion of the competitive community. Although as of now, the game's competitive community can be considered small compared to other premier e-sports games like Counter-Strike, we are starting to see the start of a community that will soon be able to cater to players of all levels. While some players at the upper tiers of the TF2 world might not be as agreeable with the newer players, with community-created tools such as PUGs, Deathmatch servers, and Mentoring programs, we are finally starting to see ways for those fresh to the competitive scene to ease into it. However, in the beginning, it can get pretty confusing for those that aren't experienced with competitive gaming, so here are some tips to get better at the game and get more competitive.
