ESEA Announces Invite Map Rotation

ehFk posted the following on GotFrag regarding the map rotation for ESEA-I Season 5:

Well after much discussion involving several people in the community we have decided on the following map rotation for the invite division, the key changes being

-Removing Well
-Adding ctf_turbine, & koth_viaduct

So the overall list for invite will be:
W1 - koth_viaduct
W2 - cp_follower
W3 - ctf_turbine
W4 - cp_freight
W5 - cp_badlands
W6 - cp_gravelpit
W7 - cp_yukon_final
W8 - cp_granary

The invite players really wanted to test a new game mode in KOTH, so I ask people who will be participating in open if they would want to try out koth_viaduct, or play cp_well instead.

Interesting map selections with koth_viaduct and ctf_turbine in the mix.  Turbine ended up being soundly rejected when CEVO tried it last season but the North American community could be coming around with regards to this game type.

Muscle Milk and Mooligans gets picked up by i7

Today we welcome a new sponsor into the Team Fortress 2 competitive world. Immortal 7 has picked up the team we currently know as Muscle Milk and Mooligans.

The i7 team will be primarily made up of ex-Area 51 players, last seen in the competitive scene winning Season 3 of ESEA-O after a controversial ending that got everyone a little...pissy. Adding Warped from All Natural and Stamjally from Lightning Bolt, this team is set up to make a big impact in the TF2 competitive scene this season.

I met with cbear shortly to get a little more detail on immortal 7 and the team.

Also, here is their unfinished website if anyone is interested: http://immortal-7.net/

Apoplexy Industries Joins CommFT

We recently decided to pick up a new game server provider and we knew that it was a priority to pick up a company that had quality boxes, untouchable bandwidth, and reliable support.  We immediately thought of Apoplexy Industries since litany and his crew undoubtedly meet all of these requirements.  AI provides the best game and voice servers for a wide variety of competitive FPS titles and litany has been thoroughly involved in the TF2 community since the early days.  Be sure to check them out if you are looking for a top-notch server for your team.

Harmonic wins Cevo-FREE Playoffs

The Cevo-Free Playoffs, which featured 32 teams in a double elimination tournament, finished off Sunday night.

Harmonic, initially seeded 8th, gallantly fought their way to the finals. They lost in their 2nd match of the tournament against Kings of Bongo, but after two wins in the lower bracket got a chance for redemption against the team that dealt them their defeat. A 5-4 win for Harmonic allowed their journey to continue, but they were still 4 matches away from the Championship round. A win against crack clan put them up against #1 ranked BOSS, but they were dispatched with a 2-1 win on GravelPit. Harmonic then beat CLFG and Rage and Terror to get their spot in the Finals against eXpertise.

The finals were played on cp_badlands, cp_granary, and cp_gravelpit was the chosen tiebreaker. In the end, Harmonic took Badlands, giving eXpertise their first loss, then followed it up by winning cp_granary and thus the whole tournament!

The final standings are as follows:

1. Harmonic

2. Expertise

3. Rage and Terror

4. CLFG

5/6. Helix

5/6. BOSS

ESEA-O Playoff Champions Crowned

The Tool Academy Grads got one more merit badge last night, beating Harmonic to take the ESEA-Open championship!

Tool Academy put a 5-0 sweep on Royal in the first round, beat the not-so terribles 5-2, then followed that up by beating Slaughterhouse Gaming on cp_gravelpit to book their place in the finals. Harmonic on the other hand were going into the match with a loss, having been beaten by Slaughterhouse gaming in the 2nd round. Harmonic fought their way back into the championship round by beating Essentrix Gaming, eXpertise, and then avenging their loss to Slaughterhouse Gaming by cleaning them out 5-0 on cp_badlands.

With the first match being played on cp_badlands, Harmonic was able to level the playing field, beating the Tool Academy Grads 5-3. CP_granary was the second map and the Tool Academy Grads turned things around, winning 5-3 and taking their crown as the ESEA-O Playoff champions! Thanks Trina!

Harmonic's consolation was that they still had the CEVO-Free tourney championships to play...

Jaeger Posts ESEA-I Finals Files

From his site (http://www.mikemarcin.com/):

Loaded faced off vs EG in the finals for ESEA Invite Season 4. Because of the earlier 5v6 loss against 20id in the first match of the playoffs Loaded had to win 2 maps and EG had to win 1 to become the season champions. EG was kind enough to let us use our new medic Pure for the match since Glue decided he didn't want to show up and our backup extraordinaire had to work. Kudos to them. Unfortunately for EG Syckness apparently tried to reboot right before the match and his computer decided to die. We delayed quite a bit hoping for a quick fix or a reschedule but ESEA wanted us to play it (which is reasonable I suppose) so Paladin had to step in at the last minute to replace him at scout.

The Badlands match was very fun and more competitve than the final score might make it out to be. I got to use lots of tricks, jumps, and hiding spots.

I probably wouldn't bother watching my POV for Gravelpit unless you're specifically looking for off soldier tips on that map. I have a role to play and I do it because winning is more important that stat whoring.

Overall the gameplay and communication was probably near if not the best we've had in a match and I think we owe it largely to presence of Pure at medic. Also props to Carnage for ending his fragging slump in a smashing fashion.

You can download the badlands files HERE and the gravelpit files HERE.

Competitive Leagues for the new season

I wrote this info for my team while we are trying to figure out which league to go into. But I feel like many other teams are asking the same question at the moment. So why not just post it on commft and maybe help a few teams with their decision. My pros and cons are mainly for low/mid, mid, mid+ teams and really doesn't mean much for the pro and high teams, but it still impacts over 50 teams in TF2 right now.

There are 3 big leagues this season in TF2:

Team Warfare League
4 Divisions with different skill levels
Start Date: November 30th
Match days: Monday

Alienware Tourney
Double Elimination Tourney with 128 teams
Start Date: December 3rd
Match days: Monday+Thursday

ESEA
Open and Invite division
Start Date: December 6th
Match days: Monday+Wednesday
