Hey everybody, it's DirtyPurity. I cannot count how many times I have played a Highlander match and had a Spy who was essentially a wasted team member. The selfish Spy is one of the most hated TF2 players. They do nothing useful and typically fail multiple times at killing useless targets. Now, to be clear, my distaste for selfish Spies does not mean that I am against Spies in general. It is a very useful class, however there seems to be an epidemic of unskilled people playing it in Highlander matches. In this article, I will explain the correct way to play Spy in a Highlander match.
I had the pleasure of interviewing them about their run in the Season 7 of the UGC 6v6 league. Atomsk and Marxist are the co-leaders and offered me their Mumble for the interview.
When new weapons come out, everybody gets excited until they realize that most of the weapons are utterly useless. However, occasionally, Valve releases a balanced weapon on accident. It is my job to look for these islands (more like small, rapidly-shrinking ice floes) of usefulness. So, with that in mind, let's take another, closer look at the new unlocks in a 6s context and decide their pros, cons, and whether they should be banned.
Hey everyone, OtakuScott here. We’re at the 2 week break for Christmas, so I figured I should say something. But not something relevant to progress or anything. Just my opinion on the ban list (found below):
Holiday greetings, everyone! It's Mutated, back for another round of breakdowns! With the first update with new weapons in quite a while, our minds turn once again to ritual slaughter - uh, competitive play!
First up is our new Scout weapon, the Wrap Assassin! This guy works in a similar manner to the Sandman - alt-fire launches a bauble that inflicts bleed damage on any sucker it hits. However, a swing of the wrapping paper proper only deals 30% of the Bat's damage. Hardcore Pyros will complain about even more infringement on their damage-over-time territory (it's like a Flare Gun that you can't put out!), but the damage is only about 2/3 a full-damage Flare shot, and that's without those fantastic crits. It allows the Scout to benefit from having another ranged weapon with no cost to his general combat abilities, but if you're caught without Scattergun shots in close range, you'll be wishing you had your bat back. It seems like a solid sidegrade if you can rock it!
Ladies and gents, snowmen and snowladies, welcome back to Screaming Eagles.
Holy crit-rockets, it's almost Christmas! And after that, New Years! And after that, the foretold Robot Wars of 2012 wherein humanity is narrowly saved on the verge of extinction by Hell Bear. Then, in 2013, TF2 becomes sentient and begins the Great New Beating. The hat economy collapses as millions of PCs, MACs, and toasters (more through vicariousness) rise against their human owners only to face the Great Hell Bearing of 2014.
So, in short: praise Hell Bear!
But never mind the portents of doom. Free, you say. What about TF2 in the here and now? What about it in the coming year?
That's what I'm here to talk about, folks. TF2 and where it's going this coming year, and more specifically, where we're going with it. Without further ado, here's the Screaming Eagles End of Year Wrap-Up!
CommFT-sponsored LASER BEAMS is currently the top team in ESEA-Intermediate with a 10-1 record. After winning the MGE Open Cup, the team started the ESEA season with seven straight wins and went on to claim five shutout victories during the season. LASER BEAMS' only loss was a close one to Xensity with a score of 1-2 on cp_gravelpit. At this point, the team has three more weeks of matches of regular season play on cp_standin, cp_granary, and cp_gullywash. These three weeks will be followed by playoffs where they are likely to meet Xensity again in their path to the championship game.
Since the regular season is winding down, I thought it would be good to provide everyone with an update of the team's progress and a Q&A session with the team members. Each question/answer combo below is with a different member of the team on a different topic. Press Read More to continue reading...
Although the TF2 jumping sub-community has never featured prominently in the larger TF2 community, things seem to have been changing over the past year or so. Many Free-2-Play TF2 players have begun practicing their jumping on the innumerable jump maps available to them, competitive TF2 Soldiers and Demomen are increasingly seeing jumping ability as an important part of their play, and jump-related videos are being released right and left. After being contacted by klanana, I have learned that there is a new website that caters exclusively to the TF2 jumping community. Fittingly called TF2Jump.com, this site features jump map downloads, tutorials, forums, servers, statistics, news, and more. Be sure to check it out if you are interested in practicing your jumping. If you don't know what jumping is, check out the two videos below:
Ladies and gents, here at Community Fortress, we strive to bring you the best coverage and insight into the game, period. But we can't do it all by ourselves! No, we need the support of the community--and that means you! Yes, you! And you! And you in the back, the one cutting yourself!
So, step on up and join Communtiy Fortress! Be part of the #1 NA site for all things competitive TF2! Hang out backstage at important events while I get completely wasted and throw up on stuff! There are more good times to be had than a burlesque show in a Holland airport!
